Lisa Sorgini’s “Behind the Glass” expo and book
Homecoming Gallery is proud to present photographer Lisa Sorgini, known for her ethereal photographs capturing scenes of modern motherhood and childhood nostalgia. Reminiscent of Old Master paintings, Lisa’s use of light and darkness is also a visual metaphor for the joys and challenges that are part of life, and become even more extrapolated when viewed from the emotion of being someone’s parent or child, or both.
The overview exhibition contains selected works from her family document ‘In Passing’ as well as individual pieces and works from her award-winning Behind Glass project (2021 Taylor Wessing Prize finalist and 2020 Lens Culture Critics Choice winner, with acclaimed articles in The New Yorker, TIME, Creative Review etc).
Lisa Sorgini’s timeless and distinct portrait and landscape scenes are unguarded and sensitive, tense and tender, rich in texture and with complex use of color and tone. Her artistic practice took flight during the most transformative and challenging times of her own life: the moment she became a mother and lost a parent in the same window of time.
