MENDO’s first fashion book is not a f*cking street style book
A behind the scenes glimpse on making This Is Not A F*cking Street Style Book
"Gully Guy" Leo Mandella
Cult photographer Adam Katz Sinding (aka Le 21ème) and MENDO are proud to present Adam's first photography monograph, This Is Not A F*cking Street Style Book. Here's what Joost and Gunifort from MENDO have to say about it.
This is Not a F*cking Street Style Book is the first monograph of cult photographer and influencer Adam Katz Sinding (aka Le 21ème), an astute documentarian of major fashion events, top brands, tastemakers, and trendsetters since 2003.
Today, the flair of streetwear is as likely to be seen on the runways of Milan, New York, and London as on the streets themselves. “This book brings together Adam’s most striking streetwear images, both on the streets and backstage at more than 20 fashion shows around the globe,” MENDO’s Gunifort Uwambaga explains. “His unique backstage access gave us a candid glimpse of the international fashion scene, which is very interesting.”

Quentin Favreau, Lloyd Mcbratney, Luke James Ford, Dan Stewart, Tom Emmerson, Clément Favreau and Jim Longden
Katz Sinding captures, supermodels, stylists, and top designers like Kris van Assche (Christian Dior), Kim Jones (Louis Vuitton) and Grace Coddington (Vogue), as well as contemporary fashion icons such as Virgil Abloh, Heron Preston, and Luka Sabbat. This Is Not A F*cking Street Style Book also features a fascinating conversational piece on the current state of fashion between Adam Katz Sinding, Virgil Abloh (founder of Off-White), and MENDO.

The book has become a firm embodiment of Katz Sinding’s work so far. Both the material as well as the design add to the hefty feel of the book. MENDO’s book designer Joost Albronda made some rigid decisions in de design phase of the book, he says: “Typographically speaking, the book design is quite strict. There’s one grid and one font, consistently implemented throughout the book. The design, therefore, focuses on what’s obviously most important: Adam’s pictures.”
Furthermore, MENDO and Adam worked in close cooperation to get the best possible book design. Joost: “As a designer, I’m always looking for an optical or graphical quotient when I put a book like this together – images should more or less complement each other. In this case, Adam and his team have had a great say in the combinations. Yana Davydova, a connoisseur of the culture and a fashion photographer herself, consulted on finding the connecting link and relevance of the images, helping to find the perfect balance between graphical and photographic importance. This altogether has worked really nicely.”

For MENDO, the launch of this book is a milestone on multiple levels. “It marks the start of the partnership between teNeues and MENDO,” Gunifort says. “It’s definitely the most international book we have created so far. It’s been a very special project to work on.”
In Europe, the book is available from mid-February 2018. Overseas, the book will be available a month later.
