Marine-turned-fashion-photographer Robert Spangle is creating a fresh understanding of Afghan culture with ‘Afghan Style’. In his quasi-encyclopedic work – at the crossroads of photo reportage and fashion – he analyses the style, silhouettes, colors, materials and accessories of Afghan men. Sold exclusively in the Netherlands through MENDO, now available for pre-order.

Through ‘Afghan Style’, Robert seeks to represent the Afghans cultural style and character outside the context of conflict and poverty. His portraits of Afghans and Afghan landscapes were taken in the districts of Paktika and Helmand and in Kabul.
Afghan Style is printed on 150g Symbol Tatami paper in France by Escourbiac and limited to 1600 copies. Created by Edition Odyssée, a publisher that prides itself on creating artistically-crafted books with evocative photography since 1992.

About the Author
Robert Spangle served as a reconnaissance officer in the US Marines and spent four years in Afghanistan. He then went on to study fashion and industrial design in London before becoming a tailor’s apprentice at Savile Row. He is now an established designer with his own label and a tireless observer of the fashion world for GQ, Esquire and The Rake.
