Sebastião Salgado’s work on display in Rotterdam
Reliving Genesis
After London and Paris, Sebastião Salgado’s ‘Genesis’ exhibition has found its way to The Netherlands. From June 15th until September 17th 2017, the epic photo project is on display at the Nederlands Fotomuseum.
Genesis, Sebastião Salgado’s biggest photo project so far, counts as his Magnus Opus. For the sequel to his other long-term projects ‘Workers’ (1993) and ‘Migrations’ (2000), Salgado travelled to countries all over the world.
During an eight-year expedition, Salgado took over 30 trips to rediscover the globe’s deserts, mountains and oceans, and to capture the animals and people that are living there – far away from today’s modern society. ‘Genesis’ shows what some 46% of our world still looks like: still as it was in the time of genesis.
In Rotterdam, at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, 250 pictures of Salgado are on display. From Brazilian alligators and African lions to the isolated Zo’é tribe deep in the Amazon jungle, and from reindeer herds in the Arctic Circle to the glaciers of Alaska – the beautiful monochrome photographs of Salgado cover it all.
Just like the Genesis book (also available as a limited Collector’s Edition), the exhibition takes the visitors on a black-and-white journey along five geographically arranged chapters: Planet South, Sanctuaries, Africa, Northern Spaces, Amazonia and Pantanal. Until September 17th, you can visit the exhibition for 2 euros a ticket.
