Made by MENDOAbout the books
Who will recognize a great book better than a bookstore? A bookstore run by graphic designers. Here’s why: at MENDO we get market feedback seven days a week, we are blessed to be surrounded by a bunch of talented, inspiring people – photographers, writers and publishers – and after being a bookstore for more than 15 years, we can easily say we know what book aficionados are looking for. Don’t you agree that initiating, creating and realizing jaw-dropping books now, only comes natural?
A MENDO publication is a well-designed book with visually stunning creative content, browsed by people to be amazed and inspired. The subject-matter is one of our pre-defined curated categories, fashion, photography, interior, sport, lifestyle, food and traveling. In general, a MENDO book is a piece of furniture in itself.
The reviving of a lost classic
A collectable object in the realm of printed matter, it is a testament to the ongoing relevance of the founding ideals of the Maison Martin Margiela: from the deconstruction of garment-making and the disruption of classical ideals in photography, to such phenomena as street casting, unconventional beauty, subversive communication, and a Dadaist approach to the very concept of fashion and object design.
The 2021 reprint is an identical reprint of the original magazine with matched paper stock and cover treatments, with all original content preserved from cover to cover. The back cover features a short descriptive blurb by the current editorial team.
Each issue contains 1 of 6 archival images from the following photographers which have been issued as 240 x 180mm unsigned prints: Mark Borthwick, Anders Edström, Marina Faust, Jonathan Hallam, Ola Rindal and Ronald Stoops. Each image is placed at random, in the spirit of the Maison Martin Margiela.
Selected contributors include: Åbäke, Kanako B. Koga, Bless, Mark Borthwick, Roxane Danset, Kristina De Coninck, Anders Edström, Marina Faust, Inge Grognard, Jacques Habbah, Jonathan Hallam, Katerina Jebb, Tatsuya Kitayama, Ali Mahdavi, Laurent Mercier, Lutz Huelle, Sébastien Meunier, Dorothee Perret, Ola Rindal, Violeta Sanchez, Patrick Scallon, Nigel Scott, Ronald Stoops, Kyoichi Tsuzuki, Bob Verhelst.
