Made by MENDOAbout the books
Who will recognize a great book better than a bookstore? A bookstore run by graphic designers. Here’s why: at MENDO we get market feedback seven days a week, we are blessed to be surrounded by a bunch of talented, inspiring people – photographers, writers and publishers – and after being a bookstore for more than 15 years, we can easily say we know what book aficionados are looking for. Don’t you agree that initiating, creating and realizing jaw-dropping books now, only comes natural?
A MENDO publication is a well-designed book with visually stunning creative content, browsed by people to be amazed and inspired. The subject-matter is one of our pre-defined curated categories, fashion, photography, interior, sport, lifestyle, food and traveling. In general, a MENDO book is a piece of furniture in itself.
A display of the camaraderie among Brooklyn’s young basketballers
The yearly tournament began in the summer of 2000 in memory of Conrad Bastien McRae (1971-2000). McRae was an exceptionally talented basketball player, who had a successful career in Europe playing for teams in France, Italy, Greece and Turkey. He died in the summer of 2000 during practice at the Orlando Magic Camp in Irving, CA. His childhood friends, Anton Marchand, Cleon “Silk” Hyde and Troy Lemond, keep McRae’s legacy alive every summer.
Ari Marcopoulos’ individual and group portraits of the players, staff, and audience are interspersed with action-filled shots of the games, while the tournament jersey with its small “Jumpman” logo (inspired by Michael Jordan) becomes the series’ predominant theme.
The tournament has players from 6 years old and up and features some of the best basketball high school players from the greater New York area. With text contributions by Andrea Lissoni, Damani McNeil, and Ari Marcopoulos.
The importance of this tournament transcends the arena of sport. It’s a metaphor for struggle and perseverance; it embodies hope and the possibility of realised dreams. Shop this book at MENDO.
