Made by MENDOAbout the books
Who will recognize a great book better than a bookstore? A bookstore run by graphic designers. Here’s why: at MENDO we get market feedback seven days a week, we are blessed to be surrounded by a bunch of talented, inspiring people – photographers, writers and publishers – and after being a bookstore for more than 15 years, we can easily say we know what book aficionados are looking for. Don’t you agree that initiating, creating and realizing jaw-dropping books now, only comes natural?
A MENDO publication is a well-designed book with visually stunning creative content, browsed by people to be amazed and inspired. The subject-matter is one of our pre-defined curated categories, fashion, photography, interior, sport, lifestyle, food and traveling. In general, a MENDO book is a piece of furniture in itself.
Back in 2012 MENDO teamed up with Dutch photographer Ewout Huibers for the book Amsterdam, A Metropolitan Village. That worked so well, that we decided to do another book together: Below Sea Level, The Netherlands in Photographs. This photographic journey takes the reader through a country where water is both a friend and an enemy at the same time. Almost one quarter of the country’s surface is made up of drained inland lakes and land reclaimed from the sea. In such a densely populated country, every piece of land is cherished. In Ewout Huibers’ stunning photographs, the ever-present water plays a natural leading role. Below Sea Level is a painstaking visual study of the land that the down-to-earth and industrious Dutch people have worked hard to create. And their work will never end.
The Netherlands is a small the country. And yet, it took Ewout 11,000 kilometres by car and over 500 kilometres by bike to cover the country. Kilometres well worth spent, if you ask us.
