Made by MENDOAbout the books
Who will recognize a great book better than a bookstore? A bookstore run by graphic designers. Here’s why: at MENDO we get market feedback seven days a week, we are blessed to be surrounded by a bunch of talented, inspiring people – photographers, writers and publishers – and after being a bookstore for more than 15 years, we can easily say we know what book aficionados are looking for. Don’t you agree that initiating, creating and realizing jaw-dropping books now, only comes natural?
A MENDO publication is a well-designed book with visually stunning creative content, browsed by people to be amazed and inspired. The subject-matter is one of our pre-defined curated categories, fashion, photography, interior, sport, lifestyle, food and traveling. In general, a MENDO book is a piece of furniture in itself.
His posters set a hallmark for nightlife advertising
Yves was French. He was born in 1954. An artist from his teens, he went to Ibiza in his twenties.
He worked there from 1977 to 1990 producing posters for cafés, bars and nightclubs. For just over a decade, Yves made over 400 posters for the legendary nightclub Ku. 400! Hand-drawn, painted and airbrushed. A huge oeuvre of extraordinary original art and the defining visualisation of Ibiza as the party island of the world.
IDEA & MENDO
Throughout 1977 to 1990 – his full career as it would turn out – Yves struggled with drug addition. In 1990 he moved to Tenerife to oversee the opening of a Ku club there. In 1995, he returned to France and died in hospital in Paris. 40 years old.
There are many great poster artists of the twentieth century. Saul Bass, Milton Glaser, Martin Sharp, Tadanori Yokoo – to name just a few. And now there is another, Yves Uro. The book has been edited by IDEA and Yves’ sister Catherine Uro. 100 stunning poster designs have been chosen for this first book. The posters themselves are rare and fast increasing in value.
